1 또한 이런 일이 있은 후에 다음과 같은 일이 있었으니, 모압의 후손들과 암몬의 후손들이 암몬족들 외에 다른 자들과 함께 여호샤팟을 대적하여 전투하러 왔더라.

It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2 그때 누군가 와서 여호샤팟에게 이와 같은 말을 알리는 일이 있었으니, “당신을 대적하여 시리아 이편 바다 너머로부터 수많은 무리가 오나이다. 그런즉 보소서, 그들이 엔게디, 곧 하자존타말에 있나이다.” 하였더라.

Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There cometh a great multitude against thee from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.

3 그러자 여호샤팟이 두려워하였고 주를 찾으려고 스스로 정하였으며 온 유다를 통틀어 금식을 포고하였더라.

And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

4 그러자 유다가 주께 도움을 구하려고 스스로 함께 모였더라. 심지어 그들이 유다의 모든 도시들에서 주를 찾으려고 나왔더라.

And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.

5 ¶ 그러자 여호샤팟이 주의 집 안에 있는 새 뜰 앞에서 유다와 예루살렘의 회중 가운데 섰더라.

¶ And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,

6 그러면서 말하기를, “오, 우리 조상들의 주 하나님이여, 당신께서는 하늘에 계신 하나님이 아니시나이까? 또 당신께서는 이방 민족들의 모든 왕국들을 다스리고 계시지 아니하시나이까? 그리하여 당신의 손안에 권능과 막강함이 있어 아무도 능히 당신을 대항할 수 없지 아니하나이까?

And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?

7 당신께서는 당신의 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 이 지역의 거주자들을 쫓아내셨고 그것을 영원토록 당신의 친구 아브라함의 씨에게 주신, 우리의 하나님이 아니시나이까?

Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?

8 그리고 그들은 그 지역 가운데 거하면서 당신의 이름을 위하여 그 지역 안에 당신께 성소를 건축하며 말하기를,

And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,

9 ‘만일 칼이나 심판이나 역병이나 기근과 같은 해악이 우리 위에 임할 때 우리가 이 집 앞과 당신의 임재 앞에 서서 (이는 당신의 이름이 이 집 안에 있기 때문이니이다.) 우리의 고난 중에 당신께 부르짖는다면 그때는 당신께서 듣고 도우시리이다.’ 하였나이다.

If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.

10 그런즉 이제 보소서, 당신께서는 이스라엘이 이집트지역에서 나왔을 때 그들이 암몬과 모압과 세일산의 후손들을 침략하는 것을 바라지 아니하셨으니, 다만 그들이 저들에게서 돌이켜 저들을 멸하지 않게 하셨나이다.

And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;

11 제가 말씀드리오니, 저들이 우리에게 어떻게 갚는지 보소서. 저들이 와서 당신께서 우리에게 주시어 상속받게 하신 당신의 소유에서 우리를 쫓아내려 하나이다.

Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.

12 오, 우리 하나님이여, 당신께서 그들을 심판하지 아니하시겠나이까? 이는 우리가 우리를 대적하여 오는 이 커다란 집단을 대적할 역량이 없기 때문이니이다. 또한 우리는 무엇을 해야 할지 모르고 오직 우리의 눈이 당신을 향해 있나이다.”

O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.

13 그러자 온 유다가 그들의 어린것들과 그들의 아내들과 그들의 자식들과 함께 주 앞에 섰더라.

And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

14 ¶ 그때 회중 한가운데에서 아삽의 아들들 중 레위인이요, 맛타니야의 자손이자, 여이엘의 자손이자 브나야의 자손이자 스가랴의 아들인 야하지엘 위에 주의 영이 임하셨더라.

¶ Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;

15 그리고 그가 이같이 말하였더라. “온 유다여, 그리고 너희, 예루살렘의 거주자들이여, 그리고 당신, 여호샤팟왕이여, 당신들은 경청하소서. 주께서 당신들에게 이같이 말씀하시나이다. ‘이 수많은 무리 때문에 무서워하지도, 좌절하지도 말라. 이는 전투가 너희에게 속하지 아니하고 오직 하나님께 속하기 때문이라.

And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.

16 내일 너희는 그들을 대적하여 내려가라. 보라, 그들이 지즈 절벽을 통하여 올라오느니라. 그런즉 너희는 여루엘 광야 앞, 시내의 끝에서 그들을 발견하리라.

To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 너희는 이 전투에서 싸울 필요가 없으리라. 오, 유다와 예루살렘아, 너희 자신을 정렬하고, 너희는 가만히 서서, 너희와 함께하시는 주의 구원을 보라. 두려워하지 말라. 좌절되지도 말라. 내일 그들을 대적하여 나가라. 이는 주께서 너희와 함께 계실 것이기 때문이라.’”

Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.

18 그러자 여호샤팟이 자신의 머리를 숙여 자기 얼굴을 땅바닥에 대고 절하였더라. 그리고 온 유다와, 예루살렘의 거주자들도 주 앞에 엎드리면서 주께 경배하였더라.

And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.

19 그리고 코핫족들의 자녀들과 코르족들의 자녀들에 속한 레위인들은 일어서서 큰 목소리로 이스라엘의 주 하나님을 높이 찬송하였더라.

And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.

20 ¶ 이윽고 그들이 아침에 일찍 일어났고 트코아 광야 안으로 전진하였더라. 그리고 그들이 전진하는 동안 여호샤팟이 서서 말하기를, “오, 유다야, 그리고 너희, 예루살렘의 거주자들아, 나의 말을 들으라. 주 너희 하나님을 믿으라. 그리하면 너희가 확고히 세워지리라. 그분의 예언자들을 믿으라. 그리하면 너희가 형통하리라.” 하였더라.

¶ And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

21 그러면서 그가 백성과 협의한 후 그가 주께 노래하는 자들과 거룩함의 아름다움을 찬송할 자들을 지정하였고 그들이 군사 앞에서 나가는 동안 이르기를, “주를 찬송하라. 이는 그분의 자비가 영원토록 지속되기 때문이라.” 하게 하였더라.

And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever.

22 ¶ 그리하여 그들이 노래하며 찬송하기 시작하였을 때, 유다를 대적하여 나온 암몬과 모압과 세일산의 후손들을 대적하여 주께서 매복병들을 배치하셨더라. 그리하여 그들이 타격을 입었더라.

¶ And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.

23 이는 암몬과 모압의 후손들이 세일산의 거주자들을 대적하여 일어섰고 그들을 모조리 살해하고 멸하려고 하였기 때문이라. 또 그들이 세일의 거주자들을 끝냈을 때 모든 이마다 다른 이를 멸하는 것을 도왔더라.

For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.

24 그런즉 유다가 광야 가운데 있는 감시탑 쪽으로 왔을 때 그들이 그 무리를 내려다보았더니, 보라, 그들이 땅에 쓰러진 채 죽은 시신들이었고 아무도 빠져나오지 못하였더라.

And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

25 그런즉 여호샤팟과 그의 백성이 가서 그들로부터 노획물을 취하러 왔을 때 그들이 죽은 시신들 곁에 있는 재물들과 값비싼 장신구들 모두를 그들 가운데 넘치게 발견하였으니, 그들이 그것들을 자신들을 위하여 벗겨냈는데 그들이 나를 수 있는 것보다 더 많았더라. 그리고 그들이 노획물을 거두느라 삼 일 동안 있었으니, 그것이 그처럼 많았더라.

And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.

26 ¶ 그리고 넷째 날에 그들이 브라카 골짜기에서 스스로 결집하였더라. 이는 거기서 그들이 주를 찬양하였기 때문이라. 바로 그 장소의 이름이 ‘브라카 골짜기’라고 불렸으니 오늘날까지 이르니라.

¶ And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.

27 그때 그들, 곧 유다와 예루살렘에 속한 모든 남자가 저마다 되돌아왔으니, 그들의 맨 앞에 여호샤팟이 있었고 예루살렘으로 다시 가기 위하여 즐거움으로 되돌아왔더라. 이는 주께서 그들을 그들의 원수들 위에서 크게 즐거워하게 하셨기 때문이라.

Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

28 그리고 그들이 솔터리들과 하프들과 나팔들을 가지고 예루살렘으로 와서 주의 집에 이르렀더라.

And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.

29 그리고 그들이 주께서 이스라엘의 원수들을 대적하여 싸우셨음을 들었을 때 하나님에 대한 두려움이 그 지방들의 모든 왕국들 위에 있었더라.

And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.

30 그렇게 하여 여호샤팟의 국토에 평강이 있었더라. 이는 그의 하나님께서 그의 주변에 안식을 주셨기 때문이라.

So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

31 ¶ 그리고 여호샤팟이 유다를 통치하였으니, 그가 통치하기 시작하였을 때 그는 삼십오 세였으며 그가 예루살렘에서 이십오 년 동안 통치하였더라. 그리고 그의 어머니의 이름은 아주바로, 그녀는 실히의 딸이었더라.

¶ And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

32 그리고 여호샤팟은 그의 아버지 아사의 길 가운데 살아갔으며 주의 목전에 옳은 것을 행하면서 그 길에서 떠나지 아니하였더라.

And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.

33 하지만 높은 처소들은 제거되지 아니하였더라. 이는 여전히 백성이 그들 조상들의 하나님께 그들의 마음을 예비하지 아니한 까닭이라.

Howbeit the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.

34 보라, 이제 여호샤팟의 행적들 중 나머지의 처음과 마지막인 그것들이 하나니의 아들 예후의 책 안에 기록되어 있으니, 그는 이스라엘 왕들의 책 안에 언급되어 있는 자라.

Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

35 ¶ 그리고 이런 일이 있은 후에 유다 왕 여호샤팟이 이스라엘 왕 아하지야와 스스로 연합하였는데 아하지야는 아주 사악하게 행하였더라.

¶ And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:

36 그리고 그가 그와 스스로 연합하여 타르시시로 가는 선박들을 만들려고 하였더라. 그리하여 그들이 에지온게벨에서 선박들을 만들었더라.

And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongeber.

37 그때 마레샤 출신 도다와의 아들 엘리에젤이 여호샤팟을 대적하여 예언하며 말하기를, “당신께서 아하지야와 함께 스스로 연합하신 까닭에 주께서 당신의 일들을 깨뜨리셨나이다.” 하였더라. 그리하여 선박들이 부서져 그들이 타르시시로 갈 수 없었더라.

Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because thou hast joined thyself with Ahaziah, the LORD hath broken thy works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
